CW's FARRIER SERVICE

INTRODUCTION

Chad W. Simmons is a Colorado native who grew up in the small town of Walden. From the age of 6, Chad spent a lot of time with his Grandpa at the timber mill he owned where he used "skid horses" to pull logs from the forest. Grandpa Bucko just had his 90th birthday, but back in the day, he also used to shoe his own logging skid horses, as well as most of the other skid horses in North Park.

When Chad was about 10 years old, he took special interest in the work of shoeing horses and began to spend more time watching his Grandpa taking care of the horses hooves. By 13, Chad trimmed and shod his first horse and actually started getting under horses on a regular basis. During that same timeframe, Chad landed his first official job as a young ranch hand and he acquired the responsibility of shoeing an entire string of horses. Over the next several years, Chad gained experience as he continued doing farrier work for Grandpa Bucko, a few ranches and private horse owners.

In 1996, Chad attended and Graduated from the Colorado School of Trade, Farrier Sciences, a federally accredited educational facility located in Lakewood, Colorado, where he significantly increased his knowledge of equine anatomy, pathology and movement in relation to equine hoof care, as well as blacksmithing  and shoeing sport horses.

After graduating, Chad's farrier business continued to grow, as did his interest in education. Chad was offered a part time position as Assistant Instructor at the Colorado School of Trade. Knowing this would keep him in the loop of continuous education, and enable him to help make a positive change in people's lives, Chad accepted. In 2000, Chad accepted the full time position of Head Instructor and also maintained his farrier business.

Over the years, Chad has taught approximately 250 students the basic skills for blacksmithing and farrier work. In January, 2008, Chad will finally go back to full time farrier services, with the addition of an apprenticeship program. Through education, Chad will continue be a positive influence in people's lives, but will also be accepting new clients for consultation, evaluation and professional farrier services, including corrective and therapeutic shoeing.
